Barchart - March NY world sugar #11 (SBH27) closed down -0.11 (-0.56%) on Friday, and December London ICE white sugar #5 (SWZ26) closed down -11.30 (-2.14%).
Sugar prices on Friday fell back from Thursday’s 4-session high, which was due to the Brazilian agricultural ministry’s report late Wednesday that Brazilian mills crushed 32 MMT of sugarcane in the first half of October, down 18% from 39 MMT in the comparable year-earlier period. The ministry reported that Brazilian sugar production in the first half of October fell -23% y/y to 2.15 MMT.
Persistent El Nino rainfall in Brazil has slowed harvesting and cane crushing. StoneX said Thursday that rain forecasts for Brazil's sugarcane belt over the next seven days suggest cane-crushing operations will remain hampered.
