ChiniMandi - Extreme heat and low rainfall are raising concerns over sugar beet production across Europe’s major growing regions, with weather conditions increasing pressure on crops during a critical stage of development, according to data from analytics firm GlobalData.

Several of Europe’s leading sugar-producing countries are experiencing unusually high temperatures, creating fresh concerns about the impact on future sugar output. GlobalData’s analysis shows that during June, maximum daytime temperatures in France were 68 per cent higher than the average recorded over the previous ten years. The United Kingdom reported temperatures 62 per cent above the long-term average, while the Netherlands recorded an increase of 55 per cent.

Similar heat patterns have also been reported in other European countries where sugar beet remains an important agricultural crop.

Dry weather conditions are adding to the challenge. Rainfall across most producing regions continues to remain below normal levels, while elevated temperatures are causing faster evaporation and reducing moisture available in the soil. As a result, sugar beet crops are facing additional stress during an important growth period.

Industry experts say the coming weeks will be critical for crop development. Adequate moisture during this stage is considered essential for maintaining yield potential, making upcoming weather conditions a key factor in determining sugar beet output and overall sugar production across Europe.
