India Oct-Dec Sugar Output Drops 30% to 7.8 Mn t – ISMA - Sugar production declined from 11.17 mn tonnes in the same period a year earlier, according to the Indian Sugar Mills Association. By Dec. 31, a total of 437 mills were crushing sugar cane, compared with 507 mills in the corresponding period a year earlier, ISMA said. In Uttar Pradesh, the country’s top grower, sugar output climbed to 3.32 mt from 3.11 mt. Production in Maharashtra, dropped to 1.65 mt from 4.46 mt. Average sugar recovery in the state so far at 10% vs 10.5% year earlier due to floods. 

 

Dutch beet harvest nearly finished – FO Licht – In Netherlands, just under 2% or 1,500 ha of beet were yet to be harvested as of December 30, the country's sole producer Suiker Unie reported. This is expected to take place in the coming week. The sugar content in the past week was again slightly lower at 16.16% than the week before, with the season-to-date total now standing at 16.4%. The company expects a campaign average of 16.34%, which would be down sharply from 17.4% a year ago. 

 

Russian beet sugar production rises to 6.288 mln t on December 16 – FO Licht - Russia produced 6,288,000 tonnes of beet white sugar as of December 16, up 16.0% from 5,421,300 tonnes produced by the same time last year, the Russian Sugar Producers Union (Soyuzrossakhar) reported. Beet processing amounted to 41,309,200 tonnes, up 15.4% from 35,813,200 a year ago. The numbers imply that the sugar extraction rate is up at 15.22% this season from 15.14% a year ago. The number of operational plants was 61 on December 16, one less than a week earlier and compared with a season total of 74.
