  • Interfax Kazakhstan General Newswire – Kazakh quota for duty-free imports of raw sugar in 2022 could be 384,400 tonnes, a source familiar with the paperwork for a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission said. The quota for 2022 is a sum of 134,400 tonnes approved until September 30, 2021, and an additional 250,000 tonnes. Kazakhstan's domestic consumption of sugar in 2021 was 560,000 tonnes, 5% above last year's levels. Beet sugar production from the new crop is estimated at 70,000 tonnes, cane sugar at 266,000 tonnes. The projected imports from the EAEU countries stand at 182,000 tonnes. In July-August 2021, Kazakhstan produced 19,300 tonnes of sugar, imports totaled 60,400 tonnes with another 438,000 tonnes to be imported until the end of the season.
