Sugar prices on Wednesday settled mixed. A slide of more than -1% in crude oil prices on Wednesday undercut ethanol prices and was negative for sugar. Also, weakness in the Brazilian real against the dollar weighed on sugar prices. The real (^USDBRL) fell to a 5-1/2 month low Wednesday, encouraging export selling by Brazil's sugar producers.
